Avoidance can be a tricky, subtle compulsion to navigate - avoidance might not even feel like a compulsion since you aren't actively going out of your way to do something compulsive, which can make it difficult to identify when we're avoiding something.
But even if it might bring us some temporary relief, avoiding our fears only feeds OCD in the long run. Over time, it can end up making our anxiety more intense, and our lives more limited. Regardless of any temporary relief of OCD-related fear or discomfort, avoidance is still a compulsion like any other, and over time, it's likely to strengthen your OCD fears and make your anxiety worse, and it can also become all-consuming and severely reduce your quality of life incredibly quickly.
